Goal
In this Asymmetric game you have two different roles. The killer who aims to find and defeat the survivors in the house, and the survivors are trapped in the house who aim to escape the killer together.
Game overview
The most outstanding feature of this game is the great table presentation. The house in which the game takes place is literally on the table between the players. The three survivors are trapped in a house where a killer is trying to find them. They will move through the house to escape. They can escape by finding five keys and all standing by the door, or by turning on the radio and calling for help. Then they have to hold out for another five turns before the help arrives.
The survivors are going to do this by moving through the rooms, searching rooms or performing repair action on the radio. When you search a room for keys, you make a sound, a sound that the killer hears and thus gives him a hint of where you are. Performing the repair action on the radio also makes noise. Moving doesnβt make a noise, so you can move under the radar without the killer knowing.
There are also different cards in the game that you can collect. These include keys, but also weapons to help defend you in a confrontation. This also includes special cards to give the killer false information about which places sound has been made.
There are several characters in the game, each with its own special abilities. If you play with more than two players, the players each play their own character. If you play with 2 players, you play all three characters at the same time.
If you are the killer, you are literally on the other side of the table. There are several types of killers, each with its own characteristics. At the beginning of the game you choose your killer you will play with. You also have a map of the house in front of you here.
Your goal is to find and kill at least 1 of the survivors. At the start of your turn, you hold cards. With these cards you will perform actions, such as moving, searching and sowing fear. If you are in the same room as a survivor, and you perform the search or fear action, a battle ensues. Dice are rolled and added to your power. If you have won, you injure the survivor, if you defeat that person again, you win the game.
You have no information about the location of the survivors, other than a signal when they perform an action with sound. Then you will be told in which room sound has been made, this helps you to determine in which direction you will move or which rooms you will search.
Review
Wow what a cool game this is! The great house on the table looks beautiful and is cleverly done. You really can’t look at each other and it really feels like you’re playing against each other.
The different roles are well-developed and balanced. In the beginning, we had to get used to the rules and we had given the killer the wrong cards and the game was finished within 10 minutes. That turned out to be wrong and with the proper distribution of the cards things went a lot better. So it is important to look carefully at the rules before you play for the first time π
The role of the survivors is quite exciting as you perform your actions in complete silence. This is the point that we found a little less about the game. With 2 players that is great and it goes well, but if you play with multiple players, it is almost impossible to do without consultation. It is difficult to win and it requires good timing of your actions and when you are going to make noise.
As a murderer it is also difficult, especially in the beginning you have little information to respond to. As the game continues you will get more information and when you have played it a few times you will get a little more insight into the different game tactics.
With 2 players it was exciting every time who was going to win.
Pay attention; this review is based on a prototype. The Kickstarter campaign will start in Q2 and will hopefully add even more cool stuff to this game
