Goal
In Dixit, someone – the storyteller – describes a card using a sound, word, or phrase. Other players also choose a card that fits the given description. All cards are laid out on the table, and players vote on the card they think belongs to the storyteller.
Game Overview
In Dixit, each round, someone becomes the storyteller. This player selects a card from their hand and comes up with a sound, word, or phrase about it without revealing the card. Other players choose their most fitting card and give it to the storyteller. The storyteller shuffles these cards and reveals them. Players then guess the storyteller’s card.
If everyone or no one guesses correctly, the storyteller receives 0 points, while others get 2 points. If someone guesses correctly, both the storyteller and the guesser receive 3 points. Additionally, everyone gets 1 point per vote on their card. The first player to reach 30 points wins the game.
Review
The artwork is truly beautiful, and it’s a lot of fun to see all the familiar movies in the game. What’s done very well is that the other components, such as the board and player pieces, are also in Disney style.
Dixit is a well-known (family) game with many expansions. Unfortunately, this version doesn’t add anything new to the gameplay, making it feel more like an expansion if you’re already familiar with Dixit. If you haven’t played Dixit before, this is a great game to add to your collection, and it’s especially enjoyable with this theme.
To be honest, an expansion with just the cards would have been sufficient for us, but we fell in love with this delightful artwork, and this variant is even more enjoyable with the kids because they recognize many things from it. It immediately makes you want to watch a Disney movie 😊
