GAMEPLAY

Goal: In New York Zoo each player is going to build a zoo full of habitats and attractions. The first player to fully build their zoo wins the game.

How to play?

🦘 Before you start to play, you first place the main board in the centre of the table and place the different tiles. Each player takes a player board and places the two displayed animals on their board. Finally you place the elephant on the red spot on the main board and the game can begin.

🦘 At the beginning of each turn the elephant meeple is moved, the number of spots depends on the number of players. You can choose the number of spaces you want to move, and you can choose between two different spots. The first is to collect 2 new animals. You can place those animals in your existing habitats or in the stock. The second is to place a new habitat in your zoo. Be aware that you can not place an empty habitat. Meaning that you must have an animal in your stock to place it in the habitat.

🦘 When you move the elephant, you also move by reproductive spots. When this is the case, all players with more than two animals of that type in a habitat may add a baby (extra) animal to that habitat.

🦘When a habitat is completely filled with animals, you remove all the animals out of the habitat. One 1 placed back into your stock, and the others move to the general supply. Next you may place an attraction in your zoo. Attraction have different shapes and sizes and they help you fill your zoo.

As soon as your zoo is completely build up, you win the game!

πŸ’‘ OUR OPINION

New York Zoo is one of our favorite games. First; it looks amazing. The animeeples are fantastic and they really add value in terms of game experience. The gameplay is smooth and the rules are easy to follow for both experienced as less experienced gamers.

New York Zoo has an amazing gameplay with 2 or 3 players in our opinion. But, because you play in your own zoo the game takes a bit too long with 4 or 5 players in our opinion, because of the waiting time before your turn.

We highly recommend this game to players who enjoy puzzle games, tactical games and also if you search for a game to play with less experienced players.
