Goal

Charterstone is a strategic board game in which players take on the role of chosen adventurers who must build a new kingdom. The goal of the game is to be the first to create a successful and prosperous kingdom and earn the most victory points.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Charterstone is divided into multiple campaigns, each consisting of different rounds. In each round, players have the option to place one of their workers on various buildings on the board. These buildings offer different actions, such as gathering resources, building new buildings, or earning victory points.

In addition to placing workers, players also have the ability to upgrade buildings, allowing them to perform more powerful actions. However, upgrading buildings requires resources and time, so players must make important choices about where to invest their resources.

What makes Charterstone unique is the legacy component. This means that the game evolves as you play. New buildings are unlocked, rules are added or changed, and events take place that impact the game world. The legacy component provides an exciting and unique gaming experience, where every decision has an impact on future rounds.

Review

To start, the quality of the game components in Charterstone, as we have come to expect from Stonemaier games, is excellent. The components are of high quality and beautifully designed. The artwork on the cards and game boards is gorgeous and adds to the overall experience of the game.

The gameplay of Charterstone is smooth and fast. The game offers a lot of choices, and the decisions players make have a direct impact on the course of the game. The actions and possibilities also build on each other well, giving the game a good balance between strategy and luck.

The legacy component of Charterstone is a great addition to the game. It provides a unique and personal gaming experience, with each campaign playing out differently. Each individual game lasts about 45 minutes (depending on the number of players). This makes it easy to get the game on the table and potentially play multiple campaigns in one evening. Additional components are introduced in each round, keeping you engaged throughout.

Overall, Charterstone is an excellent board game. It offers both engaging gameplay and a unique gaming experience through the legacy component. The quality of the game components is also top-notch. It is worth mentioning that with the base game, you can only play the entire campaign once, but there is a convenient refill pack available for replaying the entire campaign. In our opinion, it is one of the best legacy games we have played.

For whom?

If you are looking for a strategic board game with a twist, Charterstone is definitely worth a try.
