Gameplay

In Explorers you are going to explore a piece of land, over water, mountains, grassland and the desert. Explorers is a flip and write game with almost endless possibilities. Each player has it’s own player board, in that board you are going to place four land tiles. These must be the same for every player, but differ during different games.

The active player takes a tile from the pile. On the tiles are two of the four types of terrains. The active player chooses which type he wants play, he may cross of three boxes of that type. The other players can choose; they can choose the same terrain type, and cross of two boxes, or they choose the different terrain and may cross of three boxes.

During the game you find a lot of different resources, like food (carrots, fish and apples), keys and temples or rubies. These resources collect points, and the player with the most points at the end of the fourth round wins the game.

The game also has an expert mode, with more scoring possibilities. This makes the game suitable for both experiences as less experiences players.

Review

We really like this new flip & write game. It looks amazing and original, and we always enjoy the flip & write mechanism because all the players are playing at the same time.

There are a lot of possibilities to score points, and each player can choose where to focus on. What we really like is that players can have totally different strategies in scoring points, but in the end, the scores are most of the time very tight. Really nice and exciting!

Also, to opportunities to create a more expert-game, with the extra scoring mechanism and challenges work really well. The game is a lot of fun without it, but it brings an extra dimension to the game if you choose to use it. This makes the game a fun game for everybody to play!

We really recommend this game if you like flip & write games!
