GAME PLAY

Goal: In Flamme Rouge you ride a cycling race. Each player has it’s own duo to race with. Whoever crosses the finish first, wins the game.

How to play?

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Each player starts the race with two cyclist, a sprinter and a rouleur. Each cyclists comes with a deck of cards. Each cards has a number on it, meaning the number of places you can move forward. Each round consists out of four phases, and is played by all the players at the same time.

1) You start your turn by taking four cards from one of your decks. Out of those four cards, you choose one card and discard the other three. Next you do the same for the other cyclist. It does not matter what cyclist you start with.

2) Next is the movement phase. From the front to the back the riders move according to the chosen cards.

3) In the final phase the slipstream is applied. Riders on the front get a exhaustion card, and riders with one place difference with the rider in front of them are moved (from back to front) forward.

Next you remove the two played cards out of the game.

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ In the game are several stages that can be played. There are flat stages and mountain stages. If there is a mountain, you can not move more than 5 steps, regardless the card you choose. On a mountain there is no slip stream. When you start your turn on a descent, you always move at least five spots.

The cyclist that finishes as first wins, if several riders finish in the same round, the rider whoever crosses the finish the furthest wins.

πŸ’‘ OUR OPINION

We are fan! The gameplay is very simple and quick and we really enjoy it. It requires tactical choices to pick the right cards.

What surprises us every time we play it, is how well it imitates a real cycling contest. With a leading group, chasers, rouleurs and sprinters. The pros and cons of these facets are shown in every stage.
