Gameplay

In Parks you are going to hike through the National Parks of America. Each player travels with two hikers that will travel during four seasons (rounds). Each round the hikers travel through a trail with different landscapes that differ each game. Each season another landscape (card) is added to the trail, so the trail is also different each round.

The goal is to collect points, you can collect them by visiting national parks and pictures you can take during the game. You can do this by moving your hiker from left to right on the trail. You can move the hiker as many spaces as you want, as long as you consider the following rules. The first is that you can never go back on the trail, de second is that you can not visit a place that a fellow traveller is visiting.

On the trail there are several actions to execute. Like visiting a national park, collecting resources and taking photos.

At the end of each season (round) the trail is shuffled and one extra location is added to the trail. After 4 rounds the game is over and the player with the most points wins the game

Review

The artwork and quality of this game is outstanding. The charactarsitic artwork of each of the national parks in the USA is spot on and so beautiful, the wooden resources and extra laminated cards of the game look and feel of very high quality. Also, the game comes with a perfect insert. The box is small, but there is almost no air in the box, it is filled up with all these amazing components.

The resources look amazing from themselves, but with an upgrade with vinyl stickers from @levity.games they look even more beautiful.

But the game is more than just the quality. We really enjoy the smooth and balanced gameplay. The game uses a worker placement mechanism when collecting the resources and visiting the parks. The modular trail works very well and makes the game different every play.

These mechanisms are very balanced and well executed. The game plays very smoothly. The choices are clear and with enough variety to let every player choose it’s own strategy..

In case it was not clear; In our opinion this is one of the best games in our collection. The game plays so smoothly and balanced, there are enough choices to make but there is no “brain burning”- feeling. The game is fun to play with less experienced players, and provides enough dept and strategy for the more strategic players. The trail differs per play and the large variety of national parks create a different game each time you play.

So, in short; we recommend this game for the strategic player, the experienced player and the less experienced player that is willing to step up. For the admirer of amazing artwork and outstanding quality and detail on the components.
