Game overview

Wayfarers of the South Tigris is a game where dice are used as workers and players build their own tableau. The goal is to gain as many victory points as possible by performing various actions.

At the start of each round, players roll their own dice and assign them to various actions. The actions can only be performed at locations on the players’ personal tableau. Other actions on the central board can only be performed by traditional worker placement actions. Each player starts with a yellow and a blue worker. Later, four more green workers are added to the game when players reach certain thresholds.

By purchasing cards and adding them to the tableau, players can earn additional workers and place their dice on better action locations. In addition, the cards offer bonus points and opportunities to earn extra points at the end of the game. Players must weigh the rules and limitations of each action to make the most efficient choices.

The game board consists of three double-sided segments, surrounded by cards of different types and divided into boxes. The game also features various upgrades that players can earn and use to increase their abilities.

Each player has a personal board with a caravan and several rows in which cards can be placed. The maps are divided into three types: Land, Water and Space. By placing and combining cards, players can earn bonuses and expand their abilities.

The game ends when at least one player reaches the last space on the Journal track. Then each player gets one last turn before the points are tallied to determine the winner.

In addition to placing dice on the tableau and board, players can also rest to collect bonuses and reroll their dice. The game also features several guilds in which players can exert influence and earn unique bonuses.

Wayfarers of the South Tigris offers a wide variety of possibilities and challenging decisions for players to make. It is a game that is both strategic and fun to play.

Review

Wayfares of the South Tigris is a strategy board game where there are multiple ways to go for victory. In order to continue to make progress, the player will have to meet increasingly difficult requirements and must plan his actions well. This also provides enough challenge.

The quality of the components is good. The cards look nice with the artwork and the components are of good quality. The standard insert in the box is ok for sorting the components but doesn’t work quiet well when storing the box vertically.

The mechanisms are well combined with worker/dice placement and set collection. It is a good puzzle to arrive at the right actions and thus to make the best possible progress.

All in all, Wayfares of the South Tigris is an excellent board game that is well put together. The gameplay is fun and challenging, the quality of the components is high and the game mechanics are well combined. With this being the first game in the trilogy, we’re eagerly awaiting the next two games in the series.
