Gameplay

In Lost Creatures you will fill an animal park with four groups of animals. Each group has its own color with its own animals. The animals have different values, ranging from -10 to 10. The goal is to score points with your animals and the player with the most points wins the game.

When you start playing, turn 1 animal of each color (group) face up on the table. Each player chooses 1 of the four (or in a 2-player game 2 of the four) animals to add. In your hand you have 1 card of each color in your hand, so you choose the color of the animal you want and place it face down in front of you. When everyone has made a choice, you reveal the choice.

Then several things can happen: if you are the only one who has chosen that animal, you can add it to your zoo. If all players choose the same animal, the animal is startled and flees. If several, but not all players choose the same animal, no one gets the animal.

There are also some special animals in it. Such as a thief with which you can steal an animal from someone else’s park, a tornado with which you can trade a card from an animal park for another card with a player, and more cards with which you can bother other players.

The game ends when three of the four piles are empty. Then points are counted. You score 10 points per set of value 1-2-3. A set of 0-1-2-3-10 scores 30 points and you also score the value of the card per card. The player with the most points wins.

Review

It is a super fun, fast game that is very accessible even with children. Our children aged 6 and 7 can play these independently (and win!).

The artwork looks great and the animals all have hilarious names.

The game can be played with 2 players, but we prefer to play with multiple players. Your player interaction will then come into its own even better and you can annoy each other in a fun way.

In short: a fun and accessible family game which adults can enjoy.
