Goal

Kites is a cooperative game where players work together to keep all their kites in the air. If one kite falls, everyone loses.

Game Overview

The game begins by setting up six colored hourglasses with different durations and shuffling the deck of kite cards. Each player receives cards, places them face-down, and keeps the rest of the cards within reach.

Players, taking turns, reveal cards corresponding to colored hourglasses. The objective is to flip the hourglasses and keep the kites in the air. Special cards, such as storms and airplanes, add an extra challenge.

The game ends when all cards are drawn or when an hourglass runs out. The white hourglass plays a special role at the end of the game, ensuring that even the last kites stay in the air for everyone to jointly win.

Review

Kites is an exhilarating experience with hourglasses as essential game mechanics. It creates a flow-like state, requiring players to act quickly. The game was successful with both two and four players, but with four players, there is more interaction among players, enhancing the enjoyment for us.

The game is accessible and quick to learn, but hourglass games may not be suitable for everyone. We find the artwork on the cards very appealing.

For Whom?

Kites is ideal for players who enjoy fast-paced, cooperative games with an engaging hourglass mechanism. It is suitable for families, as a filler between other games, or as a vacation game.
